People often refer to Arborists as “Tree Loppers.” Below is some information which explains the difference between an Arborist and a “tree lopper.”
An Arborist is someone who has undertaken tertiary training and has received a certification in Arboriculture. This is someone who is passionate about trees & committed to educating themselves about the importance & science of trees, like ourselves. An Arborist specialises in the care of trees, who doesn’t recommend removal of healthy trees without good reason. A certified arborist understands the biology of a tree & adheres to Australian Arboriculture Standards. Arborists utilise techniques to avoid compromising the health or structural integrity of a tree. A tree lopper is the term for someone who works within the industry, however has not completed the qualifications to become an Arborist. Did you know if you allow someone to incorrectly prune your tree ONCE, that tree will never return to its natural form/shape?
Currently in Australia, the Arboriculture industry is not regulated, which means you do not require a qualification or a license to operate a tree services business. Scary huh? Always confirm that you are selecting a qualified Arborist to complete your tree works.
1. Practicing / Climbing Arborists – who undertake the daily business operations on site. Practicing Arborists have maximum exposure to trees on a daily basis and are responsible for safely pruning or removing trees in a manner that does not impact persons and/or property. Working Arborists are very knowledgeable about species of trees, disease control, tree defects & the safest strategies to remove different types of trees in varying environments.
2. Consulting Arborists – Generally work from the ground, taking a more scientific approach. Consulting Arborists are involved legislative practices such as reporting, risk mitigation, planning & development and legal disputes.
